Day 18 - January 18

Photo taken during the same cleaning session... This is a true heirloom, a German beer mug called a "Stein", which came down to me through my father from my grandfather who had bought it on a trip to Bavaria. These are collector's objects, not really for drinking (although you could!). It has some German verse on the front and intricate relief work both on the ceramic and the pewter lid.

Paper is Club Scrap "Fossils"; alphas/letters are "By the Seashore" and "LMCTW". The fleur-de-lis are brads (manufacturer not known).

Day 17 - January 17

Cleaning in the sitting room I always enjoy a handful of souvenirs and heirlooms that I keep on the shelves there. One of them is this jade figurine from China.
The tag explains it: "We bought this lovely jade figurine of a Chinese dragon holding the world orb in the Summer Palace in Beijing. The orb is carved intricately with various smaller orbs, one inside the other, without cutting open."

Patterned paper, alphas and stickers are from Club Scrap "Asian Artisan" - a kit that despite having lived in Hong Kong and travelled widely in Asia (equals to having loads of photos) I find very hard to use! The pinkish paper is from my cardmaking stash and the brads in exactly the same pink are Bazzill "Monochromes". The Asian charms and the toggle are keepsakes from Hong Kong and it was lovely being able to use them and give the page that little twist it needed...

Day 16 - January 16

For about 10 years now, I have been running a crafts group with up to 70 people at one time, all making cards and little goodies that we sell for charity. The group is called "Stitches for Presents" (see link on my other blog) because in the beginning all the members were cross stitchers and all the goodies were needlecrafts and we didn't sell them but gave them as Christmas presents to some homes for the elderly, for orphans and for terminally ill children. We still do some of that but mostly now we make cards which get sold via house parties and at church, and the money donated to various charities we agreed on.
The tag reads: "A batch of SfP cards, mainly made by Margaret, one of our most prolific members. The group is currently 40 members strong, producing loads!"

Paper is Club Scrap "Mother's Day"; number stickers from CS "Wedding" kit and the alphas and sentiment stickers are also from a CS kit - it might have been "Kit for a Cause" but I'm not sure...

Day 15 - January 15

Obviously a "filler page" - there was nothing happening that day, nothing special to report - not even the weather, and I was still in bed... So obviously this is one of the photos taken afterwards to make up for the challenge, and it's simply a bit of something in our house that I love: a wicker basket full of shells collected in Asia and Australia, which is sitting on the window sill in our bathroom. Again, I think the text is readable and expresses my love of shells and of collecting them...

Paper and cutout are from Club Scrap "By the Seashore", with heart stickers from Jolee's by You and alphas/numbers from Making Memories.

Day 14 - January 14

This is a photo I took from the bedroom window - it was the last day we had the old Toyota. Sean was going to take it to Woodlands for spares and I realised we didn't have a photo of it! As I was still in bed, and Sean gave me funny looks about wanting a photo of the old rust bucket, I took it from "above". Not very good but well - better than nothing...

It's a very simple page but making use of the 6x6" journalling pages (well, one of them) that came with the Club Scrap "Road Trip" kit. Another something I would hardly ever use on a "normal" scrapbook page. The text is all readable, I think - it shows my "full appreciation" of that particular car! Thought the page needed a pep-up, so I used one of the "Road Trip" cutouts like an index tab and also wrote the date on. The writing I put on it says "Watch out - Toyota about" (like the warning signs you sometimes find on people's gates if they have a dog...).

Day 13 - January 13

Still in bad with the flu - but after the first days was feeling well enough to read. And did a lot of reading!!! This is just a selection of the books on my bedside table...

I selected the library paper from the Club Scrap "Literacy" kit because I thought it was just ideal! The yellow thing stuck onto the photo with the number on it is a Jolee's by You "folder" which I made into a book by removing the label and adding the "title" which doubles as the date. Thought that was rather clever, even if I say so myself... The dome alphas are "Marcella" by K&Co.

Day 12 -January 12

Bit of black humour here... We left some water in the bucket not expecting such heavy frosts - we normally have quite mild winters here. It wasn't the strongest/newest bucket anyway and the expanding ice just burst it! Couldn't help taking a photo of the "mishap"...

More paper from Claire's Kits winter kit; snowflakes from Jolee's Boutique; alphas and numbers from Making Memories. The "Brrr" thing is a magnetic clip with a word on the front piece and a snowflake on the back piece showing on th back of the LO - can't remember the manufacturer as I used up the pack and threw it away! Sorry...

Day 11 - January 11

It was a great surprise when it got even colder than some days before! There was pretty hard frost which looked gorgeous even looking at it through the windows. As I was down with the flu, I sent Sean to take some photos!

Another one from the Claire's Kits winter kit: snowflake vellum which I underlayed with the shimmery silver paper from Club Scrap "Time and Space", also cutting out the tag from the same piece (behind the photo). The alphas, numbers and brads are from Making Memories, and the acrylic snowflake charms came with the winter kit.

Day 10 - January 10

This winter I caught the flu twice! This was the 2nd time and it put me into bed for a week and then quite a long time recovering...

The paper is Club Scrap "Kit for a Cause mini" which is default 6x6" paper. The acetate overlay is from "Science" - very happy to find a use for those things with this new album! The chipboard is from "LMCTW" and the 3D stickers that adorn it and the bottom of the photo are Jolee's Boutique "Doctor". The alphas are from "Down to Earth" and the peel-offs are Crafts Creations.

Day 9 - January 9

The tag is one of the cutouts of the Road Trip kit and I filled in the various sections, plus the back. It reads:
"Story of the Seanmobil: When I first met Sean, he had a very old van (Sherpa model) in dark green with yellow doors, which everybody knew and called “Seanmobil”.
Observations: The Sherpa model has since been renamed into “Pilot” – no improvement!
Story of Nottingham: Sean decided he wanted a Sherpa again but the only good offer was in Nottingham. Fairly new, it seemed a bargain, although an ex-Parcelforce van. The trip was full of problems: heavy rain, me coming down with something, two more potential buyers turning up… We succeeded in getting the van – but it’s not such a bargain after all! Many repairs needed… Sean is happy anyway."

All papers/cutouts are from Club Scrap "Road Trip"; brads are from "County Fair"; fibres from TYWL. Alphas from Making Memories.

Day 8 - January 8

It was a real surprise when my Christmas cactus went into bloom this year (although only this single flower), as it hadn't done so since we moved in here (4 years). The timing was wrong (aren't they supposed to bloom before and over Christmas?) but hey - who'd complain about that???

Everything in this LO is from Club Scrap "Painted Desert" except for the ribbon which is CS "Serengeti".

Day 7 - January 7

Commemorating the first one of this year's practises for the "ADSC Singers" - a group from our Scottish club who do not only love dancing but singing as well, and we sing every year at the Burns' Supper in late January, usually 6 pieces but this year due to short time only 5... One of the members, Janet, accompanies us on the piano - she's a fantastic pianist and great fun!

Paper and black alphas from Club Scrap "Musical Interlude"; "the" sticker from "Fizz"; grand piano button from "Dress It Up" (shank clipped off). The captions are done with white gel pen (works better with the camera than the silver one).

Day 6 - January 6

I think the tag is readable...this was supposed to be one photo but my crafts room is a tiny box room and I couldn't get the lot in from any angle. Ended up taking 4 pics! This was trying to sell what I wanted to sell off my stuff in one lot - I thought it was wishful thinking, and so it was... Have since sold some on ebay...

Papers are Club Scrap "DIY"; alphas and brads are Making Memories.

Day 5 - January 5

Frosted spiderwebs at the side of our house - the first sign of winter kicking in (and at that time pretty much all we expected for the year, so I hurried out and made sure that I "got the shot"!). The text is written around the bottom edge of the paper but it was metallic gel pen and the camera didn't pick it up very well.

Paper is from a Claire's Kits winter kit, as are the mitten die cuts and snowflake peeloffs. Brad and fibre are Club Scrap ("County Fair" and "Stepping Out") and the number 5 is a Making Memories sticker. The diecut winter title has been hanging around since the first days of my scrapbooking!

Day 4 - January 4

Tag reads: "This was an excursion Eve and I had long intended: Cream Tea at the Ritz in London. So, today was the day – prompted by my upcoming diet that will not allow me to eat sweets, we chose the last day of Eve’s school holiday. And it was amazing – lovely food (and they replenished the sanis!), piano music and a kind that decadence that was almost on the air!"

Background paper is Club Scrap "Reflections"; silver paper and number sticker from "Culinary"; acrylic embellies from "Stepping Out" - sewn on with Mizuhiki paper cord which is also used for the tag pull; peel offs from Craft Creations; bits of glitz jewels left over from some cards. The "Today is the day" sticker is from CS "Ivory Elegance" and I loved how it just fitted in with the story...

Day 3 - January 3

The tag reads: "Today we had a surprise visit from the wife of the guy who bought my old Honda Civic. I had sold it for a token £100 because it would have cost too much for another MOT after it was written off by the insurance because someone drove into my rear. She brought pictures of what the car looked like after 22 stock car races, all of which he won in it or at least placed in it (mostly won). In fact the car was then considered so superior that he was banned from racing it in the local circuit. He is totally chuffed with my little old runner and expects to do the next season with it on another circuit! Well done, “Keith Boy” and my little Honda!" Says it all...

Papers are all Club Scrap "Science", and so is the acetate overlay, which I thought fitted very well and made a nice title. Or subtitle to the blue strip - I'm not sure which I consider the title... The fibres are also Club Scrap ("Stepping Out" and "Wheels and Sprockets" I think). The number sticker is Phrase Cafe. It's fun using up all these odd bits that have been hanging around for so long!

Friday 20 March 2009

Day 2 - January 2

New Year Resolutions (these are between Sean and me together!)
The pull tag reads:
- live healthier
- live simpler
- grow your own veg!

Papers are Club Scrap "Salsa" including the 3D tomatoes; fibres are "Mosaic Magic" and "TYWL". I loved the number tag which is from the LMCTW kit - because it reads "2 peas in a pod" which seemed to be just made for this page!!!

Day 1 - January 1

January 1 - ringing in the New Year at St Peter's Chertsey. Photo of the band taken after ringing when we had a little party with champagne and nibbles... From left: my friend Trisha, her husband Peter, Joanne, Anna, David, my FIL Bob, Sean, me, Christine, Andrew (Trisha's son), Malcolm (Tower Captain); taken in the Bell Tower.

Paper is Club Scrap "Reflections"; bells are Jolee's by You; title is Soft Spoken; alphas are Making Memories.

365 Photos Challenge

After almost a year of "abstinence" I'm back into crafting and scrapbooking, and back with some of the groups and forums I used to post on. It was there that I found out about the "365 photos" challenge - or: take a photo a day - but of course with the scrapbooking twist to make them all into scrapbook pages, daily, weekly, or monthly.
Since it was my friend Marianne's site that particularly inspired me to join in a little belatedly, I chose to do it daily and in a similar format to hers (6x6" pages). Here's the link to her album:

Of course I'll have a lot of catching up to do, so watch this space!!!
